Historic Moses Fowler House
909 South Street
Lafayette, Indiana
The Historic Moses Fowler House is available as a venue for all your important special events. If you are looking for a location to have a small special gathering, somewhere that will add a bit of the nostalgia, think of the Historic Moses Fowler House in downtown Lafayette. Presently this historic house is available for events such as weddings, receptions, family reunions, birthday parties, teas, business meetings, and dinners.
The Moses Fowler House is one of Indiana’s finest examples of a Gothic Revival style mansion. The original house was built in 1851-52. In 1916, it underwent major renovations that included additions to the house and grounds. Since 1940 the Tippecanoe County Historical Association has owned and operated this historic house.
The house is used as a gathering place for many educational programs and events that support our primary mission of collecting, preserving and educating the public about our community's unique history. The Historical Association also makes the main floor available to the public for event rentals.
On the main floor the North Parlor, South Parlor, North Gallery, Dining Room, and Garden Room are available for public use. The capacity of the combined five rooms is 125 person with tables/chairs; 150 with chairs only; 175 standing only. Rental of the facility includes the use of three six-foot tables, three eight-foot tables and 60 folding chairs. Additional tables and chairs can be rented. Setup and take down, cleaning and trash removal to the dumpster, is the responsibility of the client renting the facility.
The Patio, Terrace and South Lawn are available during warmer months, mid-April to the end of October. In case of inclement weather, client should consider the rental of a tent(s) that can be erected on the patio or on the South Lawn.
The kitchen includes a refrigerator, stove, sink and clean up facilities. Our kitchen is not a facility for food preparation. It is to be used only to facilitate the staging and serving of foods that are prepared in a Tippecanoe County Board of Health Department approved kitchen. (We are not a Board of Health Licensed kitchen and no food is to be prepared or cooked on the premises). No dishwasher is available.
One interior public restroom is available for guests; we have no exterior restrooms. If the event will have more that 100 invited quests, the client must rent an outside portable restroom for the convenience of their guests.
Parking is available on the street and in TCHA’s West and South parking lots across 10th Street. No vehicles are allowed on the grass or lawn of the Fowler House grounds.
We have just completed a major restoration and face lift to the house’s main floor, and we invite you to contact the Tippecanoe County Historical Association staff for additional information and help in planning your future events at 765-476-8411 or mail@tippecanoehistory.org.
